The 17th edition of the FIFO

from 1 to 9 February 2020 - Tahiti

Fifo 2018

The 17th edition of International Documentary Film Festival Pacific ( Fifo ) is held at the Maison de la Culture in Papeete, from 1 to 9 February 2020.

Established in 2004 on a founding idea from Wallès Kotra, at the time regional director of RFO Polynésie, FIFO immediately gained a high level of public interest. It rapidly attracted directors from Oceania and from all over the world, who recognised this event as an opportunity to take a look at the region. The two key elements to its immediate success: authenticity and diversity.

Other events are organised for the public and professionals around this documentary festival like the Oceanian Television Conference, Digital Encounters, the Oceanian Fiction Night, practical training workshops, and more recently, the Oceania Pitch. In addition, since its creation, FIFO has forged special relationships with other festivals in Metropolitan France, but also in Other countries in the Pacific region, like Australia or NewCaledonia.

The festival pursues a number of goals :

- Stage an event for the Tahitian public in February
- Bring together all film and television professionals of the region, and foster the development of joint projects and information exchange on current issues
- Highlight the quality of national and international productions so as to promote the best ones and make it easier to market them internationally
- create_a market between Pacific documentary producers and world documentary buyers

The members of the FIFO pre-selection team have the delicate task of choosing about thirty competition and non-competition films from amongst almost 115 documentaries proposed. These key figures with very different, but complementary profiles all have something in common: they experience and know Oceania from within, through their professions or their activities. The pre-selection work is undertaken with great care by the members over several months, as the quality of the festival depends on their evaluation!
